The IPO application process and allotment are handled by the Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA) in coordination with stock exchanges (NSE/BSE) and merchant bankers for both SME and Mainboard IPOs in India. The RTA manages dematerialisation of shares, creation of ISINs, and filing of the return of allotment. Registrars publish the Basis of Allotment document showing how shares are allocated across investor categories; in case of oversubscription, the RTA performs proportional allotment and processes refunds. Investors can check their IPO allotment status on the registrar’s website.
